Sector: Building Services / MEP Design Consultancy
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
We're working with a well-established building services consultancy that’s continuing to grow its Electrical Design team in Manchester. Due to a sustained project pipeline, they’re looking to appoint a Senior Electrical Designer to lead complex, high-quality building services projects.
This is a pure design-focused role within a consultancy environment. You’ll be creating coordinated, well-considered electrical systems rather than contractor-side detailing or installation delivery. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, architects, and sustainability specialists, to deliver efficient, compliant, and sustainable electrical solutions.
About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong technical expertise and a passion for delivering high-quality electrical design solutions across a broad range of building services projects - from complex mixed-use developments and commercial buildings to large-scale sustainable infrastructure.
What you’ll do
- Lead the design and delivery of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and communications
- Review, approve, and ensure accuracy of drawings, specifications, and technical calculations
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost analyses to guide project decisions
- Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and contractors to integrate systems seamlessly
- Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering technical growth and high-quality deliverables
- Oversee site inspections, testing, and commissioning to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently
- Identify opportunities for energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and sustainable design solutions
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal teams and external stakeholders
Who we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards it; Incorporated Engineer (IEng) considered
- 5+ years’ experience in electrical design and project management within building services/MEP
- Proficient in electrical design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar
- Experience with BIM workflows and multidisciplinary project collaboration
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Leadership experience with the ability to guide teams and influence project outcomes
Why this role stands out
- Work where sustainability and performance are genuinely at the heart of design thinking, not just a buzzword
- Be part of a practice that values close collaboration, innovation and system-level thinking across disciplines
- A supportive environment that encourages continuous development, chartership support and hybrid working flexibility
- Competitive salary and benefits, with opportunities for career progression
If you’re a building services Electrical Designer looking for a consultancy role where good design still matters, I’d be happy to speak in confidence.
