Our Client is a leading multi-disciplinary building services consultancy known for delivering innovative, sustainable design solutions across a wide range of sectors including commercial, residential, education, retail and healthcare. A highly collaborative approach ensures that every project benefits from the technical expertise and dedication of talented MEP design professionals, operating with a strong commercial understanding of cost control and energy reduction.

The Leeds office is looking to expand the with the appointment of a Mechanical Design Engineer who is experienced in delivering building services design and conducting condition surveys. Whilst the project portfolio spans many sectors and the appointed Engineer can look forward to being involved in the design of many types and sizes of buildings, the survey work currently involves national inspections for a well-known supermarket chain and therefore retail experience would be desirable.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for the design, specification, and coordination of mechanical building services systems. Surveyswill predominately include assessing the condition and compliance of existing HVAC services, developing retrofit and upgrade strategies in line with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake the design of mechanical services (HVAC, public health, ventilation systems) from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
  • Conduct site-based MEP condition surveys, feasibility assessments, and validation of existing building services – primarily in retail environments.
  • Prepare technical reports, design specifications, and layout drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, and other design tools.
  • Produce energy-efficient and sustainable mechanical designs in line with industry best practices and relevant regulations.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated delivery of mechanical services.
  • Support the development of junior engineers and contribute to a culture of learning and excellence within the team.
  • Ensure project delivery on time and to budget while maintaining high technical standards.

 

Experience / Quals:

  • Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • Proven experience in mechanical building services design within the construction or consultancy environment.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting surveys and writing high quality technical reports.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards such as CIBSE, BSRIA, and Building Regulations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Hevacomp, IES, and Revit (or similar design software).
  • Strong communication and client facing skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (due to site travel requirements).
